Educating You and Your Dog

Group classes are a great way to connect with other dog owners and teach your dog to focus on you in the presence of other dogs.

Our small, friendly classes are a great place for both our student dogs and owners to learn. The classes take place on the East Sussex/ Kent border in Cranbrook, Hawkhurst and Lamberhurst at both inside and outside venus.

Students are given access to online videos to watch between classes in which they can re-watch demonstrations of the exercises covered, and share the training experience with family members who are unable to attend classes. On top of this support via WhatsApp, phone and email between classes gives reasurance to students if any problems or questions arise.

Dogs change a lot in their first year. Their confidence and mindset changes as they develop and grow. Dogs are also always learning. If you don’t continue to reinforce the behaviours that you want, it is easy for bad habits to creep in. Our students look at training as a life long skill, progressing through the levels. You wouldn’t say a child was fully educated after attending playgroup or primary school, and the same applies to you and your dog.

Puppy Training

Playgroup is a relaxed, informal, weekly get together of Mums and Dads with their young children. Children mix with others of a similar age and learn through play. This is what puppy training is all about.

The classes cover all the basics including walking on a lead, coming back when called, handling, sit and more. However the skills the puppies are really learning is to listen to their owner even in the presence of other dogs, that their behaviour can earn them rewards, and that their new caregiver is a source of fun and good things.

The 8 week course covers everything in the Kennel Club Puppy Foundation Award and the pups and their owners will be awarded a certificate and rosette upon completion.

Maximum of 4 puppies and their owners per class to allow for individual help when required.

You will have access to an online video library where you can watch the exercises covered in class. This is a great way to get the whole family involved in training, including those unable to attend classes.

Puppy training is open to all dogs under 6 months.

Primary School is where a formal education starts for children. Children progress from the informal atmosphere of a play group to focusing more on reading, writing and maths. This is like the transformation from Puppy Training up to Pawsome Primary.

In Pawsome Primary we re-visit the exercises taught in Puppy Training, but in a more formal manner. The course is also suitable for dogs who haven’t had any previous training. Students learn the process of how to teach their dog something new, and how to break it down into steps. Being older, the dogs are able to retain more information and are able to focus better. The course covers walking on a loose lead, coming back when called, stay, handling and other exercises needed in daily life.

During the course you have the option to do the IMDT partnership award level 1.

Small class sizes allow for individual help when required.

“Laura’s support has been invaluable in producing a happy dog who is well on the way to being a delight inside and out, on and off the lead, despite not being the easiest breed.  She’s patient and creative, and is able to adapt her approach and advice to the preferences of individual owners and dogs.  There are many dog training resources out there, some good, some perhaps less so, but Laura’s non-judgemental approach and willingness to engage directly with specific challenges stand out.” Mrs Moriarty

Please feel free to drop me an email or give me a call to have a chat before committing to any of my training options. Not all trainers are the same so it is important to find someone who you feel comfortable working with.
